There's a spark in my heart for the supportive team at Literally Stories. This community of wonderful editors & writers truly makes a positive and indelible difference. Thank you for publishing my newest short story & for being a light in my tunnel.

Once Bitten ... a quiet descent into the spaces between love, memory, and the shadows we inherit. The story is about a daughter returning each morning to a home haunted by her mother's imagined rats, walking the thin line between devotion and the slow unraveling of a shared reality.

Too often, we witness the crushing reality of our loved ones, of families and friends, who experience the cruelty of aging. Sure, promises flood our hearts as pharmaceutical companies bend, clip and suture chemical bonds to rewrite our DNA. But the effects are symptomatic. The cause goes deeper into an abyss that we simply cannot understand.

We try--with all our might--we try. And that love needs to continue. It's a strength that cannot be undermined, no matter how awful or challenging or desperate the day. Love those who love you, always.

I hope you enjoy the story.
