The Sea Between Us

I'm experiencing the kind of mood where water is involved. Rain. Rivers. Oceans. Showers. Mist, and Tears. Feels as though I'm leaning towards compiling a chapbook of hybrid poetry---a subconscious maneuvering that's coming to surface. We'll see if this movement continues or if my limbic brain drives me along a different path. For now, I hope you enjoy the narrative in today's blog post.

The Sea Between Us

The ocean breeze, cool and crisp, exfoliates my skin with soft pellets of salty air. I breathe deep, longing for this moment to never end. This remembrance, feeling you in the warmth of the brilliant sun. I don’t close my eyes. Don’t zip the front of my jacket. I fold my empty hands together. Cupping my palms. Protecting the memories of an everlasting candlelight; it’s flame whispering to me the same way your crescent lips had pressed against my open heart—living, breathing, awakening inside of me. Soft, your touch to my skin, I blossomed with you. Soft, I watched your petals fall, watered by the angst of my bruised eyes. Where is that softness now? I stand on the sand along the coast where your ashes said goodbye. Where I fold beneath the sun, closing my eyes not to cry but to weep for one more day. The ocean breeze captures all of me, swirls me with each grain of salt lifted from the sea to spread wide, far and far. It’s you. Always. You, I breathe in to nourish my candlelit heart.
